The association between diabetes mellitus and functionality in knee osteoarthritis: a cross-sectional study

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the roles diabetes mellitus (DM) on quality life, function knee, and muscle strength in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA).
 Material Method: This single-center, case-control prospectively enrolled outpatients OA visiting a physical therapy rehabilitation clinic. were grouped according presence DM diagnosis. Demographic data, disease duration, medical treatments recorded. Clinical parameters, radiographic grading (Kellgren-Lawrence grades), functional scales life evaluated.
 Results: included 82 participants [age: 61.3±6.7 years; female: 76.8%]. mean Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (n=37) without (n=45) 45.79±18.04 vs. 65.94±16.23, respectively (p=0.003).
